Basic Climbing & Ground Support course with the Rescue module added. The class size will be limited to 9 climbing students and 4 ground support students.  Everyone attending the Ground Support class will be trained in everything the climber gets but will NOT get off the ground, making them a GREAT Ground Support person for a climber.

Basic Climbing students must be recommended by their Unit Leader/Blue Cap via the Basic Climbing Recommendation Form (Click here to download the form)Exceptions:

  • Ground support students do not need a recommendation form 
  • If a current TXM climber wishes to re-take the course, no recommendation form is needed for that individual

This class starts at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, and concludes with Rescue Training on Saturday afternoon, October 10.

Cost for the training is $45.00 (non-refundable except for class cancelation) and includes all training and reference manual which you will keep.

  • Current Texans on Mission (TXM) credentials
  • Texans on Mission Basic Chainsaw Training
  • Climbing students only: Recommendation from student's Chainsaw Blue Cap using the BASIC CLIMBING RECOMMENDATION form. Click here to download the form.*

Students should come dressed for field operations — long pants, preferably long-sleeve work shirt, work shoes or boots (sandals, tennis shoes, canvas type shoes and sneakers are not permitted); no shorts. Do not purchase any climbing equipment before taking this class.

* Completed recommendation form MUST be emailed to David Meyer (davidmeyertx@verizon.net) at least seven days before the class begins.

Accommodations will be at the Heart of Texas Baptist Camp.  Beds with mattresses are provided, you will need your own bedding and toiletries.  Meals are provided, starting with breakfast on Wednesday.  The cabin we will use has showers, no laundry service.

Specialty Training Descriptions

Chainsaw-Climbing Training

This is the Climbing class with the Rescue module added. All climbing students will receive hands-on training with a variety of climbing techniques, skills, and equipment, all with an extreme emphasis on safety. The curriculum wraps up with a day of climber rescue training with hands-on practice getting distressed climbers safely to the ground.

Prerequisite:

  • Current Texans on Mission DR credentials
  • Texans on Mission Basic Chainsaw Training
  • Recommendation from students Chainsaw Blue Cap per the BASIC CLIMBING RECOMMENDATIONform* (form currently available from David Meyer)

Chainsaw-Ground Support Training

This is Ground Support training. You will NOT get off the ground, and this course will make you a GREAT Ground Support person for a climber.

Chainsaw-Rescue Training

Target Audience: All chainsaw Blue Caps and their designated Lead Person(s), any chainsaw trained person interested in climber rescue training.
