Specialty Training: Chainsaw - Basic, Heavy Equipment and Chainsaw - Man Lift.
This class covers Texans on Mission Disaster Relief Specialty Training. Participants must have completed Texans on Mission Disaster Relief Orientation and possess current TXM DR credentials.
FRIDAY
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Chainsaw - Basic
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Heavy Equipment (also included is training on mini skid steer) - THIS CLASS IS FULL
SATURDAY
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Chainsaw - Man Lift (you must have already completed Basic Chainsaw Training to attend)
Food and accommodations will be provided by Plains Baptist Assemply Camp.
TXM Disaster Relief Orientation is a prerequisite for all specialty training, including those offered on Saturday. Credentials received through orientation are necessary for entry into disaster areas and are good for five years.
Sign up for the orientation and pick the specialty areas in which you'd like to serve. You may choose one morning and/or one afternoon training class unless you choose one all-day training. These classes will give the training you need to begin delivering help, hope and healing after disasters through Texans on Mission.
Orientation or recertification is a two-step process.

NOTES ON SPECIALTY TRAINING COURSES:
- You may take one Friday course.
- There is a $12 fee for Chainsaw-basic for the manual
- Students for any of the chainsaw training classes (basic and manlift) should come dressed for field operations — long pants, preferably long-sleeve work shirt, work shoes or boots (sandals, tennis shoes, canvas-type shoes and sneakers are not permitted); no shorts.

Specialty Training Descriptions
Chainsaw-Basic Training
Target audience: Texans on Mission DR volunteers wanting chainsaw training to work with the DR Chainsaw ministry.
Basic skills on how to safely operate chainsaws while helping survivors after a disaster. Basic tree felling and bucking techniques will also be reviewed/introduced. This is a full-day course with classroom training followed by hands-on training with a chainsaw.
Students should come dressed for field operations — long pants, preferably long-sleeve work shirt, work shoes or boots (sandals, tennis shoes, canvas type shoes and sneakers are not permitted); no shorts.
Chainsaws and safety equipment will be provided. All attendees will receive a manual. Pre-registration online is required.
Chainsaw-Man Lift Training
This is the Basic Man Lift class with the Rescue module added. Participants must have current Texans on Mission DR credentials and have completed the Basic Chainsaw Training class. Students must have demonstrated their ability to use a chainsaw, (i.e. can buck, limb, and drop a tree with minimal or no Blue Cap intervention).
Students should come dressed for field operations — long pants, preferably long-sleeve work shirt, work shoes or boots (sandals, tennis shoes, canvas type shoes and sneakers are not permitted); no shorts.
Approximately one week before the class starts, students registered for the Man Lift class will be sent a link by Bill Sims what will contain training for the knots you must know before you get to class.
Heavy Equipment Training
Target Audience: Texans on Mission DR volunteers needing certification in Heavy Equipment operation.
This course is an overview of policies and procedures for those wishing to volunteer with a Heavy Equipment Unit. Safety procedures are an important part of this course. After the classroom presentation, there will be a "hands on" section in which the student will be allowed to operate available equipment. Pre-registration online is required.
