Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 hurricane. Considered one of the deadliest hurricanes to make landfall in the United States, Helene raged through five states and left a wake of destruction: Washed out bridges and roads, flooded homes, mud-covered highways and a blanket of debris and downed trees. Days after the storm, many remain powerless and the water supply in some areas has been severely disrupted. More than 130 deaths have been recorded.

A Texans on Mission Disaster Relief volunteer has been helping churches clean out flooded homes in the area around Tampa Bay, Florida. In Johnson City, Tennessee, and Spindale, North Carolina, Texans on Mission Disaster Relief teams are serving those who are suffering from devastating flooding. The teams include:

• Asset Protection
• Chaplains
• Generator/Fuel

"I could never repay what they're doing"

In Johnson City, Tennessee, the Texans on Mission State Feeding Unit has been tasked with providing more than 2,000 meals a day while flood recovery volunteers clean out water-soaked homes from the floods.

In Spindale, North Carolina, Texans on Mission chainsaw teams are cutting and removing fallen limbs and trees in an area hit hard by the storm’s high winds. For many, the damage done by the storm has made their homes uninhabitable and properties unsafe. 

“These guys are a blessing … there’s no way I could do this on my own. There’s no way I could ever repay what they’re doing. It’s a blessing,” Homeowner Joe Carpenter said. 

Each day, Texans on Mission volunteers in Tennessee and North Carolina are making a tangible difference to people’s lives. They are providing immediate needs, showing the love of Christ and restoring hope and safety to suffering families. 

The road to recovery is long. Texans on Mission expects to rotate volunteers in Tennessee and North Carolina for many weeks.
