MOU solidifies disaster relief partnership
Texans on Mission is now the primary disaster relief arm of the MidTexas Conference of Global Methodists.
The two groups solidified their partnership July 12 by signing a Memorandum of Understanding. The partnership bolsters TXM’s already robust disaster relief volunteer force and provides a way for Global Methodists to respond to disasters.
“When disaster strikes, God calls His people to respond,” said Mickey Lenamon, TXM chief executive officer. “We’re called to serve those in need. By partnering with the MidTexas Conference of Global Methodists, we are mobilizing more people to serve as the hands and feet of Christ. We’re grateful to come together to deliver help, hope and healing in Christ’s name.”
The cooperation is already transforming lives. After catastrophic flooding in Texas, TXM trained and equipped MidTexas Global Methodist churches to minister in their communities. MidTex churches also have joined TXM teams in other locations to serve.
“The MidTexas Conference of the Global Methodist Church exists to equip and energize local churches and connect them with one another for Kingdom success,” Ryan Barnett, MidTexas Conference operating officer said. “Partnering with Texans on Mission is a natural outflow of our mission. TXM is a trusted ministry that makes Christ’s love tangible during some of the most vulnerable moments in people’s lives. They provide MidTexas GMC with a turnkey experience of training, deployment, and serving Christ in the wake of disasters.
“The day we signed the partnership agreement, TXM was on the ground with our local churches, connecting with our local pastors, and marshaling resources to serve our local communities. Our volunteers have been seamlessly integrated and our impact is being maximized. Together, MidTexas and TXM are having an exponentially larger impact for our local churches than we could ever hope to have on our own.”
That kind of ministry excites both organizations.
“The signing of this MOU exemplifies our profound understanding that the body of Christ is one entity composed of many complementary parts,” noted Rand Jenkins, chief strategy officer at Texans on Mission. “What excites me most is the expanded capacity to deliver help, hope and healing to affected individuals and communities.
“Equally inspiring is witnessing churches from different denominations coming together, visibly demonstrating the profound impact of unity and active faith," Jenkins said.
