With breathtaking views, RV campsites, s'mores around the campfire and fellowship with friends, it might sound like Texans on Mission Builders took a vacation. That's not quite the case. Instead, 20 volunteers packed their tools and traded the Texas heat for the cool New Mexico mountains in August to bring life to cabins at Aspendale Mountain Retreat Center.

In just three weeks, the construction team completed two standalone cabins tackling numerous jobs, such as installing insulation and sheetrock, electrical work, plumbing and more.

A group of Cabinet Builders set up a shop in the chapel where they built cabinets for three of the cabins, plus two more sets for existing houses at the camp.

Meanwhile, a sewing team lovingly made 26 baby quilts, six fleece-tied blankets, 11 knitted caps, 24 dry bags for washable pads and a coloring book bag. All the sewed items will be delivered to various ministries.

"This was our third August returning to Aspendale," said Larry Quinn, coordinator of TXM Camp Builders. "Not only are the views beautiful, but it is remarkable to see the progress that has been made over the years thanks to our outstanding volunteers. Because of their efforts, more campers can come and experience God through nature and be spiritually refreshed."

In three years, Builders volunteers have helped construct five cabins. The camp plans to add two more in the future.
