Texans and Ugandans on Mission built a water system that brought water to 2,900 refugees after a deadly mudslide swept a Ugandan village off the map in December 2024.

The Prime Minister of Uganda recently celebrated the project. We felt it was fitting to share about such a major accomplishment as this system will bring clean water to thousands in need over time.

Texans on Mission responded to the disaster by feeding displaced residents and providing supplements for undernourished children. The development of the water system, two 20,000-liter water towers, took place alongside relief efforts at the Bunambutye Resettlement Camp processing center and was completed in May 2025.

“Floods and fires are pretty common in the area,” said Mitch Chapman, director of TXM Water Impact. “The processing center is a new, permanent facility to help victims up to 4,000 people at one time. It will get empty and it will get full again. That’s why it was important to get a long-term water solution.

“This response was different for us, but it was important because the Uganda government has come to trust the quality, credibility and helpfulness that we bring to the people we serve. And we are free to minister to their spiritual needs as we address their needs for clean water.”
